Case Studie: “Giving the Stage to Citizens”
By Miriam Tscholl (Staatsschauspiel Dresden), speaker; with Lorenzo Barello, moderator.
Residents of Dresden have been treading the boards of the Dresden State Theatre in the Dresden Bürgerbühne since the 2009/2010 season. This is a multi-generational effort involving plentiful and very varying projects. The core of the Bürgerbühne consists of five productions which are worked on each season and are planned into the regular repertoire. The house make its own resources available to do this; a close relationship with dramatists, excellent public relations, good equipment, the workshops, props, make-up, normal final rehearsal schedules on stage and much more.
When the repertoire is being worked out, the decisive questions are: Why should this material with amateurs be put on the stage? What can Dresden performers bring with them in terms of habitus, content and stories from which the theatre can profit? Which abilities are not paramount to a state of competition with the professional actors in our company?
Stage director Miriam Tscholl lead Bürgerbühne Dresden for 10 years and gives an introduction into her work.
